Monty's Car ride to Austin

The sibling rivalry becomes apparent in car rides. Monty and Taz both want Mommy's attention. Monty and Taz both want to be in Mommy's lap. So yesterday I had two cats trying to cram themselves in the space of my lap between my stomach and the steering wheel. Taz took the coveted location first and Monty appeared content to lay on the center console with his head in my lap, but then he decided enough was enough. He's bigger, he's older, he should have the prized seat. So he sat on Taz. All 16.5lbs of him on 6lb Taz. They went back and forth for about an hour as to who got most of my lap.

Finally Monty decided he just wanted to look out the window like old times (as a kitten, on the way to the vet he'd sit on the seat next to me, put his paws on the door and look out the window). As he attempted to stand up and look out the window he made a mistake. He put his paws in a location he did not usually. He rolled down the driver's window. We were going 80mph. The noise and sudden airflow was terrifying. He jumped into the back seat. Taz woke up and meowed. I laughed and rolled window back up. The next part is natural: Monty glared at me. Clearly I had done that!

Don't be fooled. This did not put an end to the fight for Mommy's lap. This just put an end to looking out the window.
